Decorating Your Baby’s Room: Present and Future Considerations
The anticipation of a new baby is one of the most exciting times in the lives of all parents-to-be. Filled with doctors appointments, shopping trips, baby showers and, of course, a fair amount of worry, the nine months prior to the birth of a baby are ones of both excitement and anxiety.
The nine months leading up to the birth of a baby can feel like centuries. That said, they are quite necessary in order to make sure that everything is set and prepared. There are tons of decisions to be made and plans to be arranged, ranging from names to doctors.
One of the most fun, but sometimes most difficult, decisions to be tackled is that of decoration. Buying baby furniture and accessories is a fantastic way to get excited about and prepared for a new baby boy or girl. Nevertheless, it requires a fair amount of thought.
Decoration options are endless, ranging from the most elaborate to the most minimal. Some parents go all out with specific themes ranging from Disney to princesses to trains to cars. Others, however, choose simple designs and colors. While some families gear furniture and decorations towards a boy or a girl, others who do not know the gender of their babies keep decoration the most minimal choosing neutral shades like yellow and green.
Obviously, it is entirely up to parents to decide what decoration themes are right for the furniture and accessories they will buy for their children. It may be a good idea to keep in mind, however, possibilities of later changing themes or decorations when the time comes.
What does this mean? A rocking chair purchased for mom and baby will be great to have long after baby is grown and breast-feeding is over. However, if that rocking chair is covered with Mickey Mouse stickers seemingly impossible to peel off, it could be lost.
Hence why it is important to decorate and purchase furniture keeping possible future use in mind.
There are certain items that won’t be able to be used for other purposes, like cradles and cribs. Other pieces of furniture like dressers, closets and rocking chairs, however, can be preserved. Investing in flexible furniture and painting that furniture in neutrals can save money and time later on, requiring later effort to make a transition.
Decorating can be a bit trickier. Nevertheless, keeping paint colors neutral and purchasing pillows and bedding that can transition to some extent can save a few headaches. Plus, parents may be surprised at the young age at which children develop their own interests and begin to think about decorating in their own styles with their own favorite characters, colors or themes.
