Isn’t it great that diaper bags have come such a long way from the way they used to look years ago? Gone are the days of mere practicality and here are the days of chic style and understated elegance. Functionality is no longer the central key for modern Moms when they begin their search for a new diaper bag. Now they expect good styling mixed with modern technologies that cover their every need. Despite the vast array of bags available, they still fall into a selection of categories that I’ll outline for you below.
The ‘Messenger’ takes its name from the classic mailer bags that are ever present in society, and they’re a groovy little number both in style and functionality. They’re popular with both sexes because they have a slight look of a laptop bag, so it’s not uncommon to see trendy Dads in New York with a ‘Messenger’ hanging from their shoulder. Often they will have a huge selection of pockets to cover almost all your babies’ accessories and as a consequence of good styling and practicality it’s a very popular bag.
Next up is The Backpack. Easy to imagine what a backpack looks like although there are differences from a standard backpack, and a backpack diaper bag. Those differences will be found in the specialty fabrics and things such as thermal bottle holders and included diaper mats. They’re very good for leaving your hands free, but a usual criticism is that they fall way short in terms of style. None the less, if you’re considering buying more than one bag this could be worthy of your consideration.
The Backpack: These bags are in many ways identical to any common backpack but with the obvious difference being the pockets and general layout for a diaper bag. They’re very useful for freeing up the hands so that you can attend to your babies needs easily. It’s a very popular consumer choice although they often fall short on style. So, if you consider yourself a bit of fashion icon this may not be the bag for you.
And finally, The Stroller. Once again the name is the key to the style as this bag is ultimately aimed squarely at being hung to a stroller. Their long handles fit over the bars of the stroller and afford quick access to the bag whilst pushing the stroller. These are popular bags because Dads seem comfortable using them too.
And that’s about it in terms of styles. Yes, there may be some slightly different designs from those I’ve mentioned but the above list is a good list to get you started. You will have to take your time when you choose your diaper bag(s) because they are so individually geared to different Moms needs. You will be faced with choices such as anti-bacterial lining, easy wipe surfaces, multiple thermal bottle holders, light-colored lining, choices of enclosures and a veritable host of colors and print designs. Take your time, think through the kind of situations you will likely be in and then choose whatever you like. You’ll be spoiled for choice – enjoy.
